Experiment 1 results

Ratio: 1:2
Potato Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The ripples were in a circular motion. The fluid appeared to maintain a constant pattern throughout the period of time over which the sound was played.
Corn Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The ripples were moving in a forward motion to the right. The pattern was somewhat constant, however, every few seconds there was a slightly different positioning for the ripples, causing the pattern to appear irregular.
Tapioca Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: A hexagon pattern is observed. It looks like a “honeycomb” shape and was maintained regularly and constantly throughout the experiment.

Experiment 2 results
Ratio: 2:1

Potato Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The potato starch fluid appeared to create a similar circular motion, however, due to the different concentration of starch, the mixture appeared diluted and therefore the circular pattern was less visible and less obvious.
Corn Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The ripples were similar to that of the 1:2 ratio, however, like the potato starch mixture, it appeared to be more diluted and therefore, the patterns were slightly more unclear in comparison to the Non-Newtonian fluid that had a larger concentration of starch.
Tapioca Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The tapioca starch mixture appeared to be extremely diluted and did not show any pattern whatsoever. The fluid appeared to be moving in a random motion and did not show signs of any visible patterns.

Experiment 3 results
Ratio: 2:3

Potato Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: There is a circular motion in which the pattern moves. The ripples do not change positions a lot. It appears to be quite constant, regular and clear throughout the experiment.
Corn Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The Non-Newtonian fluid is moving in a forward motion towards the right. It appears to be wave-like motions. This pattern is constant and clear.
Tapioca Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The tapioca starch had a hexagon-like pattern that appeared regularly, without intervals in which the pattern was irregular and unclear.

Experiment 4 results
Ratio: 3:2

Potato Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The Non-Newtonian fluid showed a similar circular pattern, except it was unclear in comparison to the mixture that had a 2:3 water to starch ratio.
Corn Starch
Tones used: C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: A similar “wave” motion was observed, however, the fluid appeared thinner and the patterns were less clear and constant.
Tapioca Starch
Tones used:  C0 (20Hz Macbook Volume 4 Amplifier Volume 0)

Observation: The same “hexagon” pattern was observed throughout this experiment, however, the Non-Newtonian fluid was somewhat diluted and did not appear as clearly as that of the 2:3 water to starch ratio.
